When I was young I used to call them "hassy wa wa's." My fervor for eloquently speaking was apparent at a young age...I had a particularly hard time ditching my pacifier. At one point, in the midst of my wailing, I exclaimed "I could really go for a hassy wa wa" right now...
Fast forward 16 years, 5 feet, and 150 pounds. Physically, tangibly, the pacifiers are gone. Yet, my soul still clings to its own pacifiers. In the midst of angst, turmoil, and unrest, the true love of the Father is replaced with temporary pacifiers. In ignorance I use flimsy idols to assuage a sickness far more intense than I even know.
Only the true love of the Father, knowing the Father, spending time with the Father, will bring peace to my fussy soul.
1 John 5:20-21: And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
